MR Findings:
- On T1W and FLAIR images, no definite abnormality is detected.
- Gradient T2W (T2*) reveals hyposignal change of acute
thrombus in the right transverse sinus (On gradient T2W,
venous sinuses are normally hypersignal though sometimes
they may have signal void when they have high flow). Also
seen are blooming artifacts along the right transverse
sinus due to local magnetic field inhomogeneities in the
presence of multistaged blood.
- Contrast study shows filling
defects in the transverse and sigmoid sinuses on the right
side and posterior third of the superior sagittal sinus
and are confirmed by contrasted MRV.
Pitfalls: - Hyposignal T1/T2 change of the affected sinuses on both
T1W and FLAIR in this case is due to acute blood clot (deoxyhemoglobin)
and is not due to signal void of blood flow.
