Cancer genetic screening: Know your risk in advance for accurate prevention.

Cancer may not be caused solely by behavior or the environment. In some cases, it results from “genetic abnormalities” inherited within the family. Genetic testing has therefore become an important tool that helps us understand personal risk more deeply, to plan life, prevention, and appropriate treatment.

What is cancer genetic testing?

Cancer genetic testing is the examination for “mutated genes” that increase the risk of developing cancer in the future, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, MLH1, MSH2, and other genes associated with various types of cancer. This test helps individuals or families with a history of cancer to know their specific risk early on.

Who should get tested?

  • Have a history of cancer at a young age
  • Have more than one direct family member with cancer
  • Have relatives diagnosed with hereditary cancer syndromes
  • Have family members found to have gene mutations related to cancer

Cancers that can be genetically tested

Genetic testing can assess the risk of various cancers, such as:

  • Breast / Ovarian cancer
  • Colorectal / Anal cancer
  • Prostate / Pancreatic cancer
  • Other hereditary cancer syndromes

Note: Not all cancers are inherited genetically, but assessment based on family history can help plan targeted health care.

Because “knowing the risk early” is the first step in prevention.
