Is it safe to fly while pregnant?

When you find yourself becoming a new mother but still have commitments that require travel, whether for work or tourism, what should a mother do?

Normally, pregnant women can travel by airplane up to about 26-27 weeks of pregnancy. If the mother is between 28-36 weeks pregnant, she must carry a medical certificate with her. After 36 weeks of pregnancy, air travel is not recommended because it carries risks and may increase the chance of triggering labor. What should be considered is whether the pregnant mother is in a high-risk condition, such as placenta previa, cervical insufficiency, or a history of frequent miscarriages or threatened miscarriage. If there are precautions, the mother should avoid unnecessary air travel.

Is going through the scanner before boarding the plane harmful to pregnancy?

Normally, airport scanners do not pose a problem for pregnant women. However, if the scanner emits a high amount of radiation, pregnant mothers should avoid it. Mothers can obtain a medical certificate from their obstetrician to show at the airport to confirm the pregnancy and request to be exempted from going through the scanner.
