一般信息
“Fat accumulation in the liver is considered a toxin as it causes inflammation of the liver and leads to cirrhosis, which can gradually deteriorate one’s health without realizing it. Nowadays, we can check for liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and fat buildup using the FibroScan machine, which helps patients avoid the need for a liver biopsy. It’s a painless procedure, and it also reduces the risk of complications. The results are quick, clear, and accurate.”
After graduating with a medical degree from Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Chanrung Sittipong continued her studies in internal medicine. She further specialized in gastroenterology and hepatology at Rajavithi Hospital. Dr. Chanrung shared the inspiration and experience that led her to this field:
“As a medical student at Khon Kaen University, I encountered many patients with liver diseases, liver cancer, bile duct cancer, hepatitis, and liver abscesses. This exposure made me familiar with these conditions. Later, as I studied general internal medicine, I became increasingly interested in specializing in gastroenterology and hepatology because these diseases involve a combination of procedures such as endoscopy, liver biopsy, and pharmacological treatments. I really enjoyed using various skills to treat these diseases.”
Expert in Gastrointestinal and liver disease
Dr. Chanrung’s patients primarily suffer from diseases related to the digestive system and liver, including liver diseases, cirrhosis, fatty liver, and intestinal disorders, as well as various infections in the digestive system. Patients may present with symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and abnormal bowel movements. Some of these symptoms are related to gastric conditions, even extending to gastric cancer. In addition to digestive diseases, Dr. Chanrung also offers treatments for liver-related conditions:
“In terms of liver diseases, such as chronic hepatitis B or C, or fatty liver that causes cirrhosis, in the past, chronic cases were difficult to treat. However, medical advancements have improved treatment outcomes. Nowadays, with proper medication and adherence to the doctor’s advice, some cases can be fully cured. Particularly with chronic hepatitis C, taking medication can almost completely eliminate the virus. By eliminating the root cause of liver cancer, patients are no longer at risk. Even patients with liver cancer can now be treated and cured. Early detection or effective treatment of the underlying causes significantly improves the chances of longer life and recovery.”
In diagnosing gastrointestinal and liver diseases, Dr. Chanrung utilizes a range of procedures, including high-standard endoscopy that is safe and comfortable, and she has access to a complete set of diagnostic tools. One of the most effective diagnostic methods is the FibroScan, which can detect liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and fat accumulation in the liver with high efficiency.
Over 10 years of experience in patient care
With more than a decade of experience in managing patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases, Dr. Chanrung places great emphasis on the context of each patient to ensure precise treatment. She always reiterates that patient care should be approached with the same level of care and concern as if they were a family member. She believes in taking a personal interest in every detail of the patient’s condition:
“As a doctor, I must care for patients with understanding, thoroughly investigate their medical history, and give them my full attention. I believe in a holistic approach, addressing both the physical and emotional well-being of patients. I also consider the role of family members who help care for the patient. It’s important to educate the patient and their caregivers, much like how a family doctor would. I ensure that the patient understands their disease, the treatment process, and how they should take care of themselves. Trust and understanding are crucial to ensuring effective treatment.”
