5 Intestinal Diseases in Children

Parents should know that Intestinal diseases is what cannot be overlooked as during their first-year-old kids could suffer from pain and not be able to explain by words. As a result they then feel tortured caused by unbearable pain. However, these following lists are types of diseases considered as one cause of the symptom:

Constipation

Constipation in young children is mainly caused by two groups of intestinal disorders like congenital intestinal for example intestinal wall has no nerves so the kids are unable to excrete requires enema. Some of children face extreme pain from defecation or the rectal are ruptured by it. As a result, they then decide to hold it instead of making defecation goes normally.

Intestinal Inflammation or Intestinal Infection?

This disease most found in small children. According to studies found that these children have diarrhea about 5-6 times a year . About 50-60% caused by virus and 30% by bacteria. Apart from that, food poisoning could also be one of the cause.

    • The symptoms are: Severe diarrhea, some patients have blood in the stool along with fever. In case of virus infection, patients might have dehydration result in dry lips, lack of saliva, deep socket, decreased urine output with cold body.

 

  • How to take care of them: When you are not sure whether the body is lack of water or not, slightly sip up the ORS might help. About 4 hours if there is no any abnormality or bad symptom like vomiting parents may start with soft food such as steamed rice. However, if your kids still have diarrhea please bring them to a hospital promptly.

Intestinal Inflammation Caused by Protein

The most common is the protein from cow’s milk while next is soy milk, egg and seafood. However, for those having allergy to cow’s milk. It is caused by immune system disorders causing some reactions between protein and milk.

    • Symptom: The baby will have diarrhea or blood in the stool.

 

  • How to take care of patient: Children should avoid some foods that cause the allergy and receive a proper diagnosis by doctor. Parents should not do it alone without accurate suggestion It is important to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. Parents should not guess by themselves or adjust their own diets for the children whereas about 15-45% of children are allergic to cow’s milk are allergic to soy milk as well.

Short Bowel Syndrome

This disease is caused by digestive disorders by birth which include Preterm Labor and the lack of intentinal blood supplying.

    • Symptoms: Having diarrhea, parents can notice that children body development might not follow their age. That because the small intestine is responsible for water absorption including nutrients and minerals. When the small intestine is cut, the absorption then might not function well.

 

  • How to take care of patients: Most cases are treated with partial resection. But the length of the small intestine are still kept to let children receive oral food via tube. However, in case of short intestine, it might require Intravenous Feeding.

Intussusception

This disease happens in children since they are born and its cause is still unknown. There is a study said the cause could be virus at the lymph nodes located at the end of the intestine. The small intestine then moves into the colon.

    • Symptoms: the baby will cry because of the pain. While drinking milk or eating they will feel hurt again. Sometimes bile comes out with vomiting. That’s because there is an obstruction in the intestine known as Intussusception. Nevertheless if this symptom happens often may cause ischemia, fever and depression.

 

  • Treatment: If the Intussusception happens for too long. The intestine then could be dead. Therefore, parents cannot ignore this. There are 2 ways of treatment: surgery and bowel cleansing. Moreover, doctor will use hands to squeeze the intestine or in case of died intestine both will be removed and replaced by good one.

If your baby has be suspected for having symptoms do not forget to bring them to a hospital to receive an accurate diagnosis provided by pediatrician.
