  • Severe headache that does not subside
  • Blurred or unclear vision
  • Severe swelling of feet and ankles
  • Painful or burning urination
  • Severe abdominal pain lasting a long time
  • The fetus does not move or moves less than 3 times in one hour after 28 weeks of pregnancy
  • Vaginal bleeding or a considerable amount of amniotic fluid leaking from the vagina

Warning signs before labor

When the mother is close to the due date, she may experience varying degrees of uterine pain, intermittent and not too frequent. This is caused by uterine tightening or contractions known as Braxton Hicks Contractions. If resting or getting enough rest, the pain will subside on its own. The signs that indicate real labor are as follows…

  • Vaginal bleeding Normally, mothers may have some white mucus discharge from the vagina, but if there is blood mixed with the mucus, they should go to the hospital as soon as possible.
  • Clear water or fluid leaking in large amounts from the vagina such as wetting the skirt or sarong, whether sitting or lying down. The clear fluid leaking in large amounts is amniotic fluid surrounding the baby, caused by the rupture or leak of the amniotic sac. Therefore, the mother should go to the hospital immediately to see a doctor.
  • Cramping pain in the abdominal area (uterus) or pain radiating to the tailbone periodically, gradually becoming more frequent until it occurs every 4-5 minutes. Each contraction lasts about 40-50 seconds, then relaxes for 4-5 minutes before starting again. This is a sign of real labor pain! The mother should promptly go to see a doctor at the hospital.

“It can be seen that if any one of these three symptoms occurs, or several symptoms together, such as after water breaks or the amniotic sac ruptures, real labor pain will follow. Therefore, it is important to go see a doctor at the hospital immediately.”
