“ Arrhythmia happens when the heart rate beats faster or slower than usual including irregular heart rhythm according to a health condition. However, this symptom is possible to be caused by an irregular heart rhythm or arrhythmia like beating too fast or too slow”
What is Arrhythmia ?
Normally, the normal heart rate is between 60-100 times per minute. If the rate is less than 60 times per min, meaning the heartbeat works slower than usual. On the other hand, if the heart rate beats more than 100 times per minute, considered it faster than usual.
What are symptoms?
-
- Abnormal heart rating ( Bradycardia): dizziness, low blood pressure or being unconscious. For mild symptoms, patients can have a fatigue and easily feeling tired.
-
- Abnormal heart rating ( Tachycardia) : For mild symptoms, patients can have a fatigue and heart beats fast. However, for severe symptoms patients may have chest pain, hypertension, feeling faint, low blood pressure, heart attack and acute death.
Causes
-
- Hereditary disorders from congenital conduction system.
-
- Deteriorated electrical conduction system of the heart usually, occurs in elderly. And eventually causes the bradycardia.
-
- Some diseases resulting in irregular rhythms. Such as coronary stenosis, high blood pressure dyslipidemia, diabetes and people with thyroid malfunction.
-
- Some medical drugs and substances; Medications may cause cardiac arrhythmias, such as cold medicine, Bronchodilating Drug, and cardiac stimulants medicine.
-
- Stress and anxiety
Diagnosis
-
- Patient profile checking.
-
- ECG or Electrocardiogram.
-
- Holter Monitoring is a heartbeat measurement or inspection for 24 hours. If symptoms seem to be abnormal, a patient will immediately be sent to a hospital for a treatment receiving.
-
- Exercise stress test; EST
-
- Echocardiogram
-
- Cardiac electrophysiology study
Severity
Some types of a disease can be an emergency, which cause danger, cardic arrest and acute dealth.
Treatment
-
- Patients with mild symptoms treatment may not be required. But a use of medication for cardiac rhythm control still being used. In order to reduce the frequency and severity of the symptoms.
-
- Ablation therapy
-
- Cardiac pacemakers implantation in patients with Bradycardia and Tachycardia.
Self-Care in patients
“Stress” is a main cause of the arrhythmia. While having a stress, the body produces hormones and neurotransmitters to stimulate the heart causing unstable heart rhymn afterward .
Prevention
Avoid risk factors such as drinking alcohol, tea, coffee including smoking and stress. Keep your body healthy. These certainly can reduce the risk of cardiac arrhythmias.
