But vaccines are not just for children because people of all ages still need booster vaccines for diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus. Adults&#8230; cannot overlook this anymore!
<h2 style=" color: #008080;">3 Contagious Diseases&#8230; Everyone Must Be Careful!</h2>
<ul>
<li>Diphtheria is a serious contagious disease caused by diphtheria bacteria found in the saliva, phlegm, or nasal mucus of patients. It spreads easily through breathing, coughing, or sneezing close to others. The incubation period is about 1-7 days. Infection can cause complications such as myocarditis and neuritis.</li>
</ul>
Symptoms include low-grade fever, headache, chills, mild sore throat, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, and extreme fatigue. If there is inflammation of the larynx, symptoms include coughing, hoarseness, and difficulty breathing.

<li>Pertussis is a contagious respiratory disease caused by pertussis bacteria present in the throat of patients in the early stage. The incubation period is about 7-14 days. It spreads through direct contact with secretions from infected individuals. Infants and young children are at the highest risk of complications, which can be life-threatening.</li>
</ul>
Symptoms in the early stage are nonspecific, such as runny nose, sneezing, low fever, and mild cough. The cough becomes severe with a &#8220;whooping&#8221; sound, continuous coughing that affects eating, drinking, and breathing. Complications may include lung infections leading to seizures and brain damage. In infants or young children, coughing may not be present, but breathing problems are the main issue.

<li>Tetanus is caused by toxins from tetanus bacteria found commonly in the environment, such as soil, grass, and animal feces. The bacteria thrive in oxygen-free environments. Most cases have a history of wounds such as nail punctures, thorn pricks, or animal bites.</li>

Symptoms occur when tetanus bacteria enter the body through wounds. Symptoms may appear from 3-21 days or longer, but usually within 10-14 days. The toxin damages the nervous system, causing muscle stiffness and spasms, jaw lock, inability to open the mouth, stiff neck, convulsions, difficulty breathing, and can be fatal.
Vaccine to Prevent 3 Diseases: Vaccines for All Ages All children should receive 3 doses of the diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus vaccine during the first year after birth (starting at 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months), with a booster dose at 18 months. Additional booster doses are given to students in grades 1 and 6 (combined with the inactivated polio vaccine).
<h4 style=" color: #008080;">Ages 11 to 18 Years</h4>
<ul>
<li>Children and adolescents who did not receive the vaccine in grade 1 should get the diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus vaccine at age 11 or 12 years.</li>
</ul>
<h4 style=" color: #008080;">Ages 19 to 65 and Older</h4>
<ul>
<li>Adults should receive a booster vaccine every 10 years.</li>
<li>Pregnant women and adults who are in close contact with infants under 12 months should receive 1 dose to help protect infants from pertussis.</li>
<li>Adults under 65 years old who have never been vaccinated should receive a booster dose at the next opportunity.</li>
</ul>
<h4 style=" color: #008080;">Pregnant Women</h4>
<ul>
<li style="">Pregnant women who have never been vaccinated should receive the vaccine at 20 weeks of pregnancy. The vaccine protects the newborn from diphtheria and pertussis for about 6 months and also helps prevent tetanus infection during pregnancy and childbirth. If not vaccinated during pregnancy, 1 dose should be given immediately after delivery because the baby is at risk of pertussis infection from the mother.</li>
</ul>
When You Have a Wound&#8230; Get Vaccinated to Prevent Tetanus For individuals with wounds or burns, vaccination may be necessary to prevent tetanus infection, especially for those who have never received this vaccine before.
Side Effects After Vaccination Are Rare but Should Not Be Ignored After vaccination, there may be pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site. Apply a cold compress immediately. Fever, vomiting, muscle aches, facial swelling, neck swelling, difficulty breathing, or rapid heartbeat may occur. These symptoms usually resolve within 1-2 days. If abnormal symptoms persist or worsen, consult a doctor.
