Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding)

Having longer menstruation from 4-5 days to 8 or change your sanitary pad 2-3 times a day and big period clot starts to frighten you. Are these considered as dangerous warning signs of cancer of the body? please stop questioning any further and receive a proper diagnosis from your doctor.

Signs of “abnormal menstruation”

    • The period goes more than 7 days
    • During the menstrual period, the sanitary napkins must be changed every hour
    • Need to change sanitary pad during a night.
  • Approaching to age 50 or menopause with menorrhagia or heavy menstrual bleeding.

Cause of Menorrhagia

    • Hormone Imbalance

When the estrogen malfunction occurs it leads to heavy producing of the endometrium with more thickness. The process of the endometrium becoming the blood then also functions intensively.

    • Problems with uterus

The uterus is associated with menstruation causing these abnormal symptoms to happen for example tumors, pelvic inflammatory, endometriosis,polyp or cancers such as cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancer.

    • Side effects from treatment or medication

Having heavy menstrual bleeding which may come from the side effect of treatment, such as hormone taking, chemotherapy, intrauterine device birth control including antiplatelet, anticoagulant and birth-control pill.

    • Having various diseases

Body malfunction or certain diseases can affect menstruation such as pituitary tumors, thyroid dysfunction, blood coagulation, thrombocytopenia, hemophilia and some of liver or kidney diseases that have affect in homeostasis. However, infection in the vagina or uterus are also included. Moreover, there may be a lot of vaginal discharge.

Detecting some dangerous signs of symptoms by these following screenings:

    • Pelvic Examination

The doctor will examine the vagina and cervix to detect cervical lumps, ulcer and polyp as well as providing infection or inflammation screening after cervical cells are being collected. In addition, checking a size of the lumps in cervix and ovary is also included for example pressing on skin to find unusual lumps

    • Ultrasound

If diagnosis from the doctor says there is disorder in the uterus or ovary, the ultrasound then will be applied for more accurate resulting. However, it can be made in both abdominal and vaginal area.

Due to menstruation is associated with the “uterus”a main female reproductive organ if abnormal symptoms appear along with irregular pain or vaginal discharge please go see your doctor as soon as possible to receive a proper diagnosis.
