Yellow fever is a contagious disease caused by the Flavivirus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. It is commonly found in tropical regions of Africa and South America. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and fatal. The term &#8220;yellow&#8221; comes from jaundice or yellowing of the skin, which is often seen in patients with this disease. There is no specific treatment for yellow fever, but it can be prevented by vaccination!!
<h2 style=" color: #008080;">How is yellow fever transmitted?</h2>
Infection can occur in both humans and monkeys. Transmission occurs from person to person (horizontal transmission) through Aedes and Haemagogus mosquitoes (found only in the Americas), which can pass the virus to their eggs that will develop into infected mosquitoes (vertical transmission). Therefore, mosquitoes are the carriers of the yellow fever virus, including both domestic and wild mosquitoes. The incubation period is approximately 3-6 days.
<h2 style=" color: #008080;">Symptoms of yellow fever</h2>
Symptoms include fever, headache, abdominal pain, and vomiting. This is followed by a short recovery period, then progressing to shock, bleeding, and liver failure, which may occur in about 5% of yellow fever infections.
<h2 style=" color: #008080;">Who should receive the yellow fever vaccine?</h2>
Vaccination is recommended for individuals aged 9 months and older. The Ministry of Public Health has declared yellow fever a dangerous communicable disease and a notifiable disease, and the following measures must be followed:
1. Those traveling to and/or returning to the Kingdom of Thailand from territories or countries declared as yellow fever endemic zones, totaling 45 countries as follows:

2. Those who have never been vaccinated or those who were vaccinated more than 10 years ago must receive the yellow fever vaccine at a vaccination center and must have a vaccination certificate issued at least 10 days before traveling to or from countries or territories declared as yellow fever endemic zones to the Kingdom of Thailand.
<h2 style=" color: #008080;">Who should not receive the vaccine or should postpone vaccination?</h2>
<ul>

<li style="">Allergic to the vaccine or any component of the yellow fever vaccine</li>
<li style="">Under 6 months of age</li>
<li style="">Individuals with immunodeficiency conditions such as symptomatic AIDS or CD4+ count &lt; 200 /mm3 Patients with thymus gland diseases, cancer patients, those receiving immunosuppressive drugs, or organ transplant recipients</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<h2 style=" color: #008080;">Managing possible side effects</h2>
The vaccine may cause severe allergic reactions such as rash, facial swelling, neck swelling, difficulty breathing, or rapid heartbeat. If these symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately. However, severe allergic reactions to the vaccine are very rare.
Common mild reactions after yellow fever vaccination include pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site, which usually resolve within 1-2 days. Low-grade fever, headache, or muscle aches may also occur. If any other unusual symptoms appear, consult a doctor.
