5 Techniques of “MIS”

A word “Spinal Surgery” makes most of us consider or think of big surgery that requires
long time of recuperation. However, the key concern is uncertainty of full recovery after
procedure including risks.

Anyone who is worried about these problems can be relieved. As today, there is MIS or
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery with 5 techniques that provide high accuracy of treatment
result. Side effects, pain, blood loss and risk of infection therefore are prevented by this
approach effectively.

Endoscopic Discectomy

It is a surgery that requires a use of Endoscope. During procedure, the Endoscope will be
inserted through 8mm size of small surgical wound. Although the camera has a tiny shape,
there is a special lens that allows doctors to see disorders and internal organs clearly.

Degenerative Disc surgery using Laser with Endoscope or Microscope

It is a treatment that requires use of laser through 1 mm. Fiber optic together with
Endoscope to cut part of the disc that needs to be removed by heat from the laser.

Nucleoplasty

The Nucleoplasty is a procedure that applies a small needle implant to release radio wave
that creates heat which breaks down the disc that compresses the spinal cord. After the
procedure, pain will be relieved gradually. This approach is suitable for symptom of mild
spinal cord compression which is back pain that does not spread to the legs. Moreover, the
symptoms must not be able to be treated with medicine or physical therapy.

Degenerative Disc surgery using Microscope

It is small incision that causes 2-3 cm. of surgical scar using Microscope, a small
magnification camera that helps widen detail of internal organ inside the body during a

process. Moreover, there is Navigator that calculates location of the spinal cord so, a doctor
can determine and plan for treatment easily and precisely.

Artificial Disc Replacement

If a patient has severe degenerative disc and an organ cannot function itself normally then,
the Artificial Disc Replacement is needed. This is a remedy for disc motion; the Artificial Disc
provides movement that is close to its actual motion. In addition, this treatment also lowers
a chance of degeneration including bad side effects.

However, having spine problems or diseases does mean surgery is the only treatment
solution as some conditions can be adjusted or treated by our lifestyle modification. In
addition, as soon as some disorders are found, meeting your doctor promptly to receive
