Skin diseases in private areas can occur and are not something to hide or be ashamed of. What are the common skin diseases in private areas?
1. Wart
A sexually transmitted disease caused by the human papilloma virus. It appears as a tumor with pink or flesh-colored rough skin. If it spreads and grows larger, it may resemble a rooster comb or cauliflower.
2. Gonorrhea
A sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In men, symptoms include painful urination, burning, and pus discharge from the urethra. In women, abnormal vaginal discharge that is pus-like and foul-smelling, painful urination, and if there is pelvic inflammatory disease, lower abdominal pain and fever may occur.
3. Syphilis
A sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. This disease has 4 stages. In the first stage (Primary Syphilis), the sore is shallow with clean, smooth edges, painless, and firm raised borders called a chancre. The sore usually appears 10-90 days after infection and may be found on the genitals and anus.
4. Chancroid
A sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi. The sore has soft, uneven edges and is painful. Some cases may have enlarged lymph nodes in the groin.
5. Molluscum contagiosum
Caused by a virus from the poxviridae family. In adults, it usually occurs only on the genital area. In children, rashes may appear all over the body, such as in the folds of the arms, legs, and torso. The lesions appear as small red bumps and may have a white substance inside. Sometimes a central dimple can be seen.
6. Pearly penile papule
A normal skin condition characterized by many flesh-colored bumps around the tip of the penis. Patients often visit doctors suspecting a sexually transmitted disease such as genital warts.
7. Herpes Simplex
A viral infection caused by the Herpes simplex virus. It appears as groups of blisters that break into shallow sores, often painful and burning. It can be found on the genitals and lips. This disease can recur and is not curable.
8. Tinea cruris (Jock itch)
A fungal skin infection. The rash appears as circular or ring-shaped scaly patches. Clear blisters may be found at the edges, and the center of the ring may be flattened.
9. Candidiasis
Characterized by red, itchy, moist, peeling skin with clear borders. Small red bumps or pustules may be scattered around the edges of the rash. It is commonly found in skin folds such as the groin and armpits. If it occurs on the tip of the penis, pustules may be present.
