Bone Spurs

Bone spurs can occur naturally. When the bones are worn, fractured or broken, the body will use calcium to repair the damage, leading to the affected bone or bones to be misshapen. Because this presents itself in the form of an unnaturally thickened calcium formation, it is known as a bone spur. Bone spurs can occur to any part of the human body, but they are frequently encountered in the shoulder and back bones. Bone spurs can cause many dangers. For example, they might pierce muscle tissues or nerves. Symptoms of bone spurs include severe pain and loss to perform living activities as flexibly as normal. Bone spurs may prevent the normal function of organs, but some patients might experience no accompanying symptoms.

 

 

Your doctor will perform a physical examination by x-ray. In cases where the bone spur is very small, it can be detected by ultrasound, which can be used to identify the site and distribution of calcium accumulation and abnormalities.

 

 

There are many ways to treat bone spurs as follows:

  • Pain and anti-inflammatory medications.
  • Physical therapy to strengthen shoulder muscles.
  • Steroid injection at the site of ligament inflammation.
  • Surgery, if there are aches or pain and indications for surgery, in order to improve ligament mobility and reduce inflammation.

Because the cause of bone spurs is not clearly known, you can only perform self-care such as by eating beneficial foods for your body that help build muscles, bones and vertebral discs like high-calcium foods, animal proteins and fatty fish. Exercise to improve muscle and joint strength is another way to care for your health.
