Post-Extraction and Oral Surgery Guidelines:
- Gauze Application: Bite down firmly on the gauze placed over the extraction or surgery site for 30-60 minutes. Then, remove and discard the gauze.
- Cold Compress: Apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the outside of your mouth over the extraction or surgery site for 48-72 hours after the procedure.
- Mouth Care:
- Avoid vigorous rinsing for the first 24 hours.
- After 24 hours, rinse gently with a mouthwash or warm saline solution (1 cup of warm water mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of salt), especially after meals.
- Oral Hygiene: Brush your teeth as usual, but take care to avoid the surgical site.
- Pain Management: If you experience pain, take one paracetamol tablet every six hours or follow the pain medication instructions provided by your doctor.
- Avoid Interference: Do not touch the surgical area with your fingers, use toothpicks, or suck on the wound.
- Activity: Resume daily activities but avoid strenuous exercise for the first 2-3 days.
- Alcohol and Smoking: Avoid alcohol and smoking for 5-7 days post-surgery.
- Diet: Eat soft and smooth foods for 5-7 days. Avoid spicy, hot, cold, and hard foods.
- Monitor for Issues: Contact the hospital immediately if you experience any unusual symptoms or feel unwell.
- Stitches: If you had stitches, return to the hospital to have them removed 7-14 days after the extraction or surgery.
