Cervical cancer is one of the top causes of death for women in Thailand, with approximately 99.7% of cases linked to infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus ranges from low-risk types to those that can be life-threatening. 
 
So, which strains are responsible for cervical cancer? HPV strains can be broadly categorized into two main groups:
<ul>
<li>High-Risk Strains: These include strains 16 and 18, which can lead to cervical cancer as well as other types of cancer.</li>
<li>Low-Risk Strains: These include strains 6 and 11, which can cause genital warts. While these strains may not pose a life-threatening risk, if left untreated, they can progress and disrupt daily life.</li>

HPV Vaccine: Protecting Against Cervical Infections</h2>
The HPV vaccine is designed to prevent cervical infections caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer. This vaccine helps the body develop immunity against the virus. 
 
Currently, the vaccines available in Thailand protect specifically against cervical cancer caused by HPV strains 16 and 18. These two strains account for approximately 70% of cervical cancer cases. However, this means that about 30% of cervical cancer cases can result from other HPV strains.

Types of Vaccines for Cervical Cancer Prevention</h2>
Vaccine Types: 
 
1. Quadrivalent Vaccine (4-strain): Covers HPV strains 6, 11, 16, and 18. 
2. Bivalent Vaccine (2-strain): Covers HPV strains 16 and 18.

How Many Doses of the Cervical Cancer Vaccine Are Required?</h2>
 
The cervical cancer vaccine is administered as a series of three intramuscular injections. The second and third doses should be given 1-2 months and 6 months after the first dose, respectively.
