Preparation for Gastroscopy
- Fasting from food and water from midnight before the examination day
- No breakfast, water, or any drinks on the day of the examination
- If sedation or general anesthesia is given via IV, the patient will feel comfortable and pain-free during the procedure but may feel drowsy afterward. The patient should rest for a while before going home.
Preparation for Colonoscopy
- To ensure accurate colonoscopy results, the colon must be thoroughly cleaned with no food residue or stool blocking the view. If abnormalities such as polyps are found, they may need to be removed. Therefore, bowel preparation is very important and must be followed as below.
- Take laxatives as prescribed by the doctor. After taking laxatives, avoid traveling as you will need to have frequent bowel movements.
- One day before the examination, consult the doctor about dietary restrictions.
- On the day of the examination, do not eat breakfast or drink water. Arrive at the hospital on time for the procedure.
- If sedation or general anesthesia is given via IV, the patient will feel comfortable and pain-free during the procedure but may feel drowsy afterward. After the procedure, rest until fully awake before going home.
