The HPV vaccine helps prevent and reduce the risk of cervical cancer. It provides the highest benefit to women who have never had sexual intercourse.
However, adults who have already been sexually active or previously infected with HPV can still receive the vaccine, as it can offer protection against strains they have not yet been exposed to.

The vaccine is administered in 3 doses over a period of 6 months: the second dose is given two months after the first, and the third dose is given six months after the first. The immunity from the vaccine generally lasts for at least 5 years and may be boosted later.
