Hepatitis viruses may cause more severe diseases than expected, as they lead to liver cell inflammation. This inflammation can destroy liver cells, and if it becomes chronic, it can cause fibrosis, cirrhosis, and potentially progress to liver cancer. Therefore, screening for hepatitis viruses is essential to prevent the risks associated with them. If no infection is detected, vaccination can be given to protect against hepatitis.
