<p>Before undergoing Manometry examination and treatment, patients must first have an endoscopy to find physical abnormalities. However, if no abnormalities are found that can be explained by endoscopy, Manometry is necessary to further examine the function because even though the organ looks normal physically, there may be hidden functional problems.</p>
<h2><span style="color: #00826a;">Things to know about Manometry examination</span></h2>
<ol>
<li>Patients must fast from food and water and stop medications that interfere with esophageal contractions before inserting the nasal catheter, except for medications taken for patient comfort.</li>
<li>The doctor will spray anesthetic before inserting the nasal catheter, which takes only a few minutes if the patient cooperates well.</li>
<li>Once the catheter is inserted into the stomach, the patient can see the real-time results on the monitor immediately.</li>
<li>When the catheter tip is in the stomach, the doctor will ask the patient to swallow water 10 times to observe how the esophagus and sphincter contract during swallowing. Each swallow must be of sufficient quality to clearly observe the organ&#8217;s function.</li>
<li>Inserting the Manometry catheter through the nose has no side effects or complications during the examination. There may be slight irritation during insertion and minor nasal discharge or bleeding, but nothing severe such as organ perforation. If the patient cooperates well with the doctor, the procedure will take about 45 minutes.</li>
