Rabies&#8230; 100% Mortality Rate Rabies is caused by the rabies virus, which causes disease in mammals such as humans, dogs, cats, monkeys, gibbons, squirrels, bats, or other wild animals. Once infected, the rabies virus destroys the nervous system. Symptoms include muscle pain, fever, headache, hydrophobia, aerophobia, restlessness, neurological symptoms, paralysis, and death. Currently, there is no medicine that can cure rabies. If infected and not treated promptly or left untreated, it will result in death in every case.
Scratches, Licks, Bites Are Dangerous People of all ages can be infected with rabies. The saliva of infected animals is the most dangerous source of transmission. Contact with animals that have rabies can transmit the virus through wounds, scratches caused by bites or scratches, or saliva from licks.
What to Do When Scratched, Licked, or Bitten by an Animal

<li>Wash the wound with water and soap several times, allowing water to flow over the area for a long time, then apply an antiseptic such as povidone-iodine or alcohol.</li>
<li>Remember the characteristics of the animal to find the owner and inquire about the history and risk of rabies.</li>
<li>See a doctor immediately to receive rabies vaccination within 2 days and receive serum as appropriate.</li>
<li>Quarantine the dog/cat that bit you to observe symptoms for 10 days. If it dies, report immediately to the local livestock authority.</li>

Prevent in Advance with Rabies Vaccination Vaccination can be given in advance to prepare the body to fight rabies. The vaccine is administered in a volume of 0.5 cc in just 3 doses, spaced 1-2 weeks apart. If bitten by an animal, only 1-2 booster doses are needed, and serum is not necessary.
Benefits of Pre-Exposure Rabies Vaccination

<li>Cost-saving, as it eliminates the need for expensive and scarce serum in cases of severe animal bites.</li>
<li>Safe, because only booster vaccines are needed for protection without serum, reducing the risk of serum allergy.</li>
<li>Less painful, because if bitten, only 1-2 booster vaccine doses are required. Without prior vaccination, usually 5 doses of vaccine and serum injections around all wounds are necessary.</li>
</ul>
Currently, if you have dogs or cats, you should take them for rabies vaccination. Avoid playing with or provoking animals to prevent irritation, anger, or fear. Do not touch the animal’s food tray and avoid close contact with stray or ownerless animals to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of rabies.
