I have been receiving treatment at Phyathai 3 Hospital for almost 20 years. My home is on Kanchanaphisek Road, but the reason I chose to come here is because I was impressed and felt happy the first time I came. So I chose to continue receiving services here. Even though I have moved to Nonthaburi area, which takes 2-3 hours to travel to the hospital, I am still determined to come to Phyathai 3 Hospital for treatment.
This visit to the hospital was the most severe. Normally, I take care of my health by eating well and exercising. But nowadays, with the convenience of food outlets and eating habits, as well as exercise, my body&#8217;s metabolism is no longer the same. I have known for a long time that I have degeneration in the 4th-5th vertebrae of my spine. The cause of my symptoms comes from my lifestyle and occupation, using my body in the correct way such as lifting and carrying heavy objects for a long time. At that time, I was focused only on earning money and did not care about my health, which caused the spinal vertebrae to degenerate severely, leading to this surgery. The pain was ongoing but I could live normally. Although many people advised me to seek treatment at other hospitals, I could still endure it and did not seek treatment because I was afraid based on relatives&#8217; stories, such as being put under anesthesia and not waking up, or being unable to walk after surgery. I was even more afraid that if I had surgery and could not walk, I would not want to be a burden to my children or close ones.
Until one day, while lying in bed about to fall asleep, I started to feel numbness and pain from my hip to the tip of my foot. After a while, I tried to get up to go to the bathroom but could not move. I called my daughter to come and see, and then I started to think that my condition might be caused by spinal collapse. If I were to describe the pain level, I could not say it was just a level 10 because it was the worst pain. I would say it was a million level, to the point I wanted to cut off my leg. My children took me by car and rushed me to see a doctor at Phyathai 3 Hospital since I already had a medical history here. When we arrived early in the morning, the staff took me to the emergency room to provide nursing care to reduce my pain. Meanwhile, the emergency room nurse tried to contact <a href="https://www.phyathai.com/doctor_detail/39639/" target="_blank">Dr. Teerachai Phanitpong, Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery Specialist</a> to come and diagnose. Although it was the doctor&#8217;s day off, the nurse requested Dr. Teerachai to come and see me. While waiting for the doctor to arrive at the hospital, the doctor ordered an MRI to speed up diagnosis once he arrived.
While waiting for Dr. Teerachai, the hospital team did not remain idle. They tried to give me medication to relieve my pain as much as possible. The medication only reduced the pain but did not eliminate it. When Dr. Teerachai reviewed the MRI results, he diagnosed and suspected that my symptoms were more severe than what the MRI images showed. He planned treatment to try physical therapy combined with advice from <a href="https://www.phyathai.com/doctor_detail/29ED0FE4-D726-499A-97B1-5D9CACFB5814/" target="_blank">Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nantasorn Sinjboonyakul, Head of Pain Relief Center</a> to reduce pain by injection. The medication helped reduce pain and assisted in diagnosing that if the injection was effective, it meant the pain location was correctly identified. After the injection, the pain disappeared for only 48 hours. If I were to go home to rest for another 2 weeks, I would worry about living at home unable to help myself. So, I consulted with the nurse to find a treatment plan with the doctor. Dr. Teerachai suggested surgery. Although I was afraid of surgery, the pain made me decide to undergo the operation.
After the surgery, Dr. Teerachai came to ask about my condition and closely monitored and advised me. The symptoms completely disappeared, making me think that if I had known this earlier, I would have done it sooner because the word &#8220;pain&#8221; never came back again. ^^
