Wrist tendonitis... a condition that graphic designers need to watch out for

Working constantly with a keyboard and mouse as a “graphic designer” increases the risk of developing “wrist tendonitis.” If you are one of the designers by blood… you should start paying attention to your wrists!! Because even if your brain is full of ideas… if your wrists can’t function, how can you create great work, right???

If you have these symptoms… you might be having “wrist tendonitis”

  • Feeling pain when moving the thumb
  • Pressing on the tendon under the wrist joint next to the base of the thumb causes pain
  • Feeling that the skin around the wrist is warmer than other areas
  • The muscles connected to the tendon feel tense or stiff

Working hard… take a break and exercise your wrists a bit

  1. Touch the tip of your thumb to the tip of your index finger and hold for 5 seconds. Then move the thumb tip to touch the tip of your pinky finger and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat alternating back and forth 10 times.
  2. Bend your wrist down as far as possible and hold for 5 seconds, then bend your wrist up as far as possible and hold for another 5 seconds. Repeat alternating back and forth 10 times.
  3. Turn your palm up, make a fist, then slowly bend your wrist upward and hold for 5 seconds. Then slowly bend your wrist back down to the original position. Repeat 10 times.
  4. Turn your palm down, make a fist, then slowly bend your wrist upward and hold for 5 seconds. Then slowly bend your wrist down and hold for another 5 seconds. Repeat alternating back and forth 10 times.
  5. Use an object as assistance, such as a small ball, by squeezing it as tightly as possible and holding for 5 seconds, then release. Repeat alternating back and forth 10 times.

Wrist inflammation… once it occurs, treatment should be prompt

Of course… the best treatment is to stop heavy use of the wrist or try to avoid postures that require spreading the thumb or bending the fingers upward. However, if the pain persists, you may need to wear a temporary splint, take painkillers, or receive anti-inflammatory injections, combined with physical therapy and exercise to strengthen the muscles and tendons.
Tendon inflammation occurs at various levels, requiring different treatment methods!! It is best to see a doctor when you have symptoms of wrist tendonitis for a thorough diagnosis… so that the treatment can be as accurate as possible according to the symptoms.
