3 Popular Gastrointestinal Diseases That Undermine Urban Lives

When mentioning “gastrointestinal diseases”, some can be severe enough to cause death, some cause annoyance, and significantly affect the daily lives of patients, especially office workers in urban society who are not few victims.

Are you one of them? Let’s check yourself together.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a serious threat to the new generation

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is caused by the intestines responding to stimuli faster than normal, resulting in cramping pain in the lower abdomen or below the navel, along with diarrhea or constipation, or alternating diarrhea and constipation. There may be mucus in the stool or symptoms of bloating, fullness, or belching. The pain usually improves after bowel movements.

Most abdominal pain occurs in the morning or after eating and can be easily triggered by stress, high-fat foods, meat, and foods that produce a lot of gas in the stomach.

Acid reflux, a popular disease among office women

Acid reflux disease is caused by stomach acid flowing back into the esophagus. This acid is highly concentrated, causing damage to the esophagus and its delicate lining, leading to inflammation.
Since acid reflux disease also causes bloating and indigestion, similar to gastritis symptoms, many people often assume they have gastritis. Recently, the number of acid reflux patients has been increasing, especially among working-age young adults, particularly office women who like to snack, eat irregularly and hurriedly, as well as those who enjoy spicy food, drink alcohol, smoke, or lie down immediately after eating, all of whom are at high risk.
Therefore, if you experience bloating, indigestion, sour belching, burning pain in the chest and epigastric area that radiates to the chest or throat, you should consult a doctor.

Colorectal cancer, a major issue for all ages

Did you know that colorectal cancer ranks among the top 3 diseases causing over 6,000 deaths annually in Thailand? Although most patients are over 50 years old, anyone can develop this disease regardless of gender or age.
The primary cause of this disease is genetics, which is difficult to avoid but can be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and strong immunity. However, many patients have no family history but develop the disease partly due to unhealthy lifestyles such as lack of exercise, overwork, stress, and low or no dietary fiber intake.
Common symptoms of colorectal cancer include bloody stools, mucus and/or bloody mucus, unexplained alternating constipation and diarrhea, unexplained anemia from chronic minor bleeding from cancer ulcers without awareness, severe constipation, or chronic abdominal pain from tumors blocking the bowel.
Know early, change your lifestyle early… it’s still not too late.
