Confident in your smile again with the "Veneer" tooth coating technique

We believe that many people lose confidence in conversations and hesitate to smile fully because of issues like discolored teeth, crooked teeth, small teeth, gaps, or chipped teeth. For these reasons, the Dental Center at Phyathai 2 Hospital offers “Veneers” to help you address all these problems because we want to see you smile confidently again.

What is the “Veneer” technique?

Veneers are artificial tooth coatings similar to crowns, but unlike crowns that cover the entire tooth, veneers are thin layers applied only to the front surface of the teeth to correct various issues. These include tooth discoloration such as freckles, gray streaks, or abnormal tooth shapes. Even slight misalignment of teeth can be corrected.

Check it out! How are the two types of veneers different?

  1. Composite resin veneers have a color similar to natural teeth and are affordable but not permanent because the material absorbs stains. If you drink coffee, tea, or smoke, after 2-3 years, the color may change, and you might need to replace the set. The procedure is completed in one session but takes quite a long time. If a patient gets 6-8 teeth done, it may take about 3 hours.
  2. Ceramic veneers The advantage of ceramic is that it does not absorb stains but is more expensive. Regarding durability, if not used improperly, research shows that over 95% last more than 10 years. Patients need to visit the dentist at least twice. The first visit involves preparing the tooth surface and taking an impression to send to the lab for fabrication. While waiting for the final piece, the dentist will provide a temporary restoration. After 1-2 weeks, the patient returns to have the permanent veneer attached.

Veneer procedure

Step 1 Discuss your needs with the dentist because some problems might be better solved with other methods such as teeth whitening, fillings, or orthodontics.
Step 2 Once you decide to get veneers, the next step is to take an impression to create a model for the veneer. This helps communication between the dentist and patient and ensures the result meets your expectations.
Step 3 Prepare the tooth surface by grinding it down. The amount depends on the original condition of the teeth. For well-aligned teeth, only about 0.5 millimeters may be ground, but if teeth protrude, more grinding may be needed to ensure proper alignment after veneer placement.
Step 4 Attach the veneer to the front of the tooth.

After getting veneers… your dental health remains strong

After getting veneers, you will have beautiful teeth that fit closely with your natural teeth. You can clean them normally by brushing, flossing, and scaling. They function similarly to your original teeth. If you choose ceramic veneers, you can also worry less about discoloration.
