When tooth loss occurs, replacing teeth with implants is one option for patients to restore chewing function close to natural teeth again. After visiting the dentist for an oral examination, the dentist will schedule an appointment for implant surgery. Proper preparation before implant surgery is another factor that contributes to successful and safe treatment and reduces patient anxiety. Therefore, on the day of the implant surgery appointment, patients should follow these guidelines:
- Arrive at the hospital at least 15 minutes before the appointment to rest and relax.
- Eat sufficiently and avoid fasting before the appointment.
- Take regular medications (if any) as prescribed by the doctor, except for certain medications that must be stopped before surgery. Avoid stopping medications on your own. If unsure, please consult the dentist in advance before the appointment.
- Write down the list of regular medications or bring your medications with you on the appointment day.
- If you have a history of drug allergies, please inform the dentist.
- Prepare at least one soft meal after surgery, such as milk, soy milk, yogurt, fruit juice, rice porridge, or boiled rice.
- Prepare a cold gel pack to apply during the first 24 hours after surgery.
- Patients can travel to and from the hospital by themselves. If feeling anxious or having multiple implants done on the same day, relatives can accompany you on the surgery day.
