"Cervical cancer" should be screened for prevention and treated promptly if detected early.

With the average daily death rate of “cervical cancer” patients reaching as high as 7 people per day, it clearly shows that some Thai women still overlook regular cervical cancer screening. In fact, cervical cancer can be prevented and cured if detected early. Especially if you are at risk, promptly undergoing cervical cancer screening and regularly following your doctor’s recommendations will increase the chances of prevention and complete cure from cervical cancer. Early detection while the cancer has not yet spread results in better treatment outcomes.

These behaviors… that risk “cervical cancer”

  • Infection with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) in the cervical area
  • Having sexual intercourse at a young age
  • Having multiple sexual partners or having sexual intercourse with men who have multiple partners
  • Taking contraceptive pills continuously for a long time
  • Smoking
  • Lack of cervical cancer screening

Cervical cancer screening is divided into 2 methods

  1. Conventional Pap Smear
In this screening method, the doctor uses a spatula or a small brush to collect cells from the cervix and then smears them onto a glass slide to check for abnormalities. This method has limitations because some cells remain on the collection tool! Cells may overlap in multiple layers, and mucus and blood cells may obscure abnormal cells, making the results difficult to read and increasing the chance of errors.
  2. SurePath Cervical Cancer Screening (BD SurePath Liquid-Base Pap test)
This method uses new technology where the doctor uses a specially designed device to collect cells from the cervix, then detaches the head of the collection device into a container filled with a preservative solution. This allows the same sample to be tested up to 5 times. The collected cells are arranged in a thin layer without mucus or blood obscuring them, making the results easier and more accurate to read. It increases the detection rate of HSIL abnormal cells by up to 64.4% compared to the conventional method.
