Veneers Vs Crowns: The Next Step in Treating Teeth to Be Beautiful and Strong

“Teeth” are considered one of the important organs that most people tend to neglect. This may be because if there is no toothache every day, they feel that their teeth are strong and do not take much care of them. Eventually, the once strong teeth gradually decay, erode, and wear down. Besides filling cavities, tooth extraction, and scaling, which are common dental treatments, “veneers” and “crowns” are also two equally important procedures. They not only help solve aesthetic problems of the teeth but also enhance their strength and functionality.

What are Veneers and Crowns? How are they different?

Veneers are a coating and decoration of defective tooth surfaces, such as blackened teeth, yellow teeth, gaps, chips, cracks, or breaks. They are mostly applied to the front teeth by using materials similar to teeth, such as ceramics, to cover the problematic areas on the real teeth, restoring their beautiful appearance.

Crowns (Dental Crowns) are a treatment that involves covering a damaged tooth, whether due to decay, cracks, breaks, or chips, to protect the remaining tooth structure and restore the tooth’s strength and normal function. Crowns can be applied to any tooth position and are made from various materials, such as ceramics or metal. The choice of material depends on the desired strength and budget, as each material varies in price.

In summary, veneers and crowns differ in that veneers only coat the tooth surface and are mostly used for cosmetic purposes. They are suitable for teeth with minor defects, slight decay, misalignment, or discoloration to restore their beauty. Crowns, on the other hand, cover the entire tooth and are suitable for teeth with significant decay, chips, or breaks that cannot be restored by fillings. Crowns restore the tooth’s function for chewing and biting effectively and prevent further damage or complete decay of the tooth.
