Is it true that young age means you don't have to worry about infertility?

What is infertility? What does it mean?

Infertility means that a couple is unable to conceive naturally after having regular sexual intercourse (2-3 times per week) for 1 year. Couples who are young and healthy usually do not have infertility problems. It is found that the age range of 20-30 years is the period with the highest chance of pregnancy, and pregnancies during this time are often healthy and safe. However, some young couples may still experience infertility. Many may wonder how young people can have infertility issues. Today, Dr. Nopparat Chaiburanapankul, our specialist obstetrician and gynecologist in infertility, has stated that groups at risk of infertility even at a young age include:

  • Women who have had surgery on the uterus or ovaries or have chronic uterine diseases such as chronic lower abdominal pain, severe menstrual pain, frequent uterine or fallopian tube inflammation, detected cysts or uterine fibroids, etc., including a history of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
  • Men with diseases or conditions that may risk infertility such as injuries, surgeries, or diseases in the lower abdomen, groin, or genital area; sexually transmitted infections; diabetes; hypertension; alcohol consumption; smoking; drug use; use of medications that may affect sperm production; including a history of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Parents do not need to worry because nowadays there are many technologies available to care for and treat infertility. It is recommended to see a specialist doctor to investigate the causes of infertility and to complete your family.
