Phyathai Nawamin Hospital, in addition to providing health care services to patients, also recognizes the importance of boosting immunity for the population to prevent vaccine-preventable infectious diseases. Nowadays, international travel has become more convenient and increases every year, with more travelers entering and leaving countries. Each country differs in geography, climate, and endemic diseases. These factors may pose health risks to travelers, including both infectious and non-communicable diseases, ranging from mild to severe. Therefore, the Adult and Traveler Immunization Center, or Vaccine Center, was established to provide vaccination services against various diseases for those interested in health, both Thai and foreigners. It also offers consultation on necessary vaccines before traveling abroad to prepare for the trip, proper conduct during travel, precautions, and symptoms that require medical attention after returning.

Why do adolescents and young adults need to get vaccinated?
Although we may have received many vaccines since childhood, as we grow older, immunity from some vaccines received during childhood tends to decrease over time, which may lead to infection. Therefore, booster vaccinations are necessary, such as the Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus vaccine.
Additionally, some adolescents and young adults today have never been vaccinated or have incomplete vaccinations, such as the Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine, and should receive additional vaccines. Some infectious diseases may occur during adolescence, such as HPV infection from sexual contact. Moreover, new vaccines have become available to prevent diseases that were not previously covered.
Vaccines for Adolescents and Young Adults (Ages 9-25)
-
- Cervical cancer vaccine (HPV vaccine)
- Chickenpox vaccine (Varicella vaccine)
- Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine (MMR vaccine)
- Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus vaccine (Tdap)
Vaccines for Adults and Elderly (Age 50 and above)
Infections in the elderly are significant because their immunity decreases, making them more susceptible to infections, with higher rates of disability and death compared to younger people. Therefore, vaccination in the elderly or those with chronic diseases is used as a tool to prevent important infectious diseases and reduce hospital admissions.
Vaccines to consider for the elderly include
-
- Influenza vaccine
- Pneumococcal vaccine
- Shingles vaccine (Zoster vaccine)
- Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus vaccine (Tdap)
For Pilgrims Traveling for Hajj and Umrah
Thai Muslims traveling to perform religious rites in Saudi Arabia must prepare knowledge about the Hajj and Umrah rituals, financial readiness, necessary travel documents, and health readiness. Each year, millions of pilgrims travel and stay in crowded conditions, increasing the risk of both infectious and non-communicable diseases. Pilgrims should be aware of their health care before, during, and after the pilgrimage.
To prevent important infectious diseases before travel, especially for those with chronic diseases, pilgrims should receive vaccines required by Saudi Arabia at least 10 days before traveling, which include
-
- Meningococcal vaccine
- Influenza vaccine
