Chemicals that "sensitive women" should know! Before choosing "cosmetics"

Nowadays, there are hundreds of cosmetic and skincare brands for us to choose from. However, if you have sensitive skin, you need to be extra careful because spending money on treating irritated skin can sometimes be more expensive than the cosmetics or skincare products you bought. Today, we have some useful information for those with sensitive skin about chemicals to avoid in various products, so you don’t have to suffer from skin problems caused by allergies or irritation anymore.

Preservatives

A common ingredient found in cosmetics is the paraben group, which is used to extend the shelf life of other ingredients in cosmetics. However, parabens also contain substances that interfere with hormone functions in the body. Parabens are mostly found in shampoos, conditioners, facial creams, cleansing creams, nail care creams, permanent wave solutions, etc. The symptoms usually include allergic rashes and red itchy rashes.

Fragrances and Scenting Agents

Often, the word “Fragrance” is used to represent chemicals in the Phthalates group, which are synthetic scents or synthetic perfumes. These substances mimic hormone functions in the body and also disrupt endocrine gland functions. It is best to avoid products containing fragrances or look for those with Essential Oils instead.

Sunscreen Agents

Whether it is chemical sunscreens like Oxybenzone and Octylmethoxycinnamate, prolonged sun exposure can cause these substances to change structure into other compounds that stimulate the immune system and disrupt hormone functions, leading to allergies and clogging.

Synthetic Colors

Made from coal tar, which contains heavy metals, synthetic colors cause skin irritation and sensitivity. Animal testing has shown that almost all synthetic colors are carcinogenic. You can recognize these ingredients by labels such as FD&C or D&C followed by color and numbers.

Plant Extracts

Plant extracts may contain various phytochemicals. Some of these substances may not be compatible with our skin and can cause irritation.

Skin Coating Agents

Such as petroleum derivatives, commonly found in foundation creams, facial foams, and moisturizers. These chemicals are derived from petroleum oil and have the property of retaining moisture by coating the skin, which can cause irritation, clogging, and acne.
