After childbirth, abnormal symptoms may occur. To help mothers understand and relieve anxiety, it is important to know the possible normal and abnormal symptoms as follows.
Perineal wound pain
Mothers who deliver vaginally will experience pain in the perineal area after delivery. If the pain is severe, take painkillers for about 3-4 days. After delivery, the wound pain will significantly decrease. Most of the time, the pain will disappear within 1 week after delivery.
If the pain is severe, the wound is swollen and red, tender to touch, and sitting is difficult, there may be wound infection. You should see a doctor immediately for further treatment.
Constipation
Within 1 week after delivery, mothers often have constipation or hemorrhoids. After delivery, it is recommended to eat foods high in fiber such as vegetables and fruits and drink plenty of water. If problems persist, consult a doctor for advice. Using strong laxatives may affect the breastfeeding baby and cause diarrhea.
Anemia
After delivery, mothers often experience anemia due to some blood loss during childbirth, whether a little or a lot. Therefore, in the postpartum period, doctors usually recommend mothers to take iron supplements for at least 1 month to help the body return to normal quickly.
Depression
Depression, also known as Postpartum Blues, usually occurs during the first week after delivery for unknown reasons. This symptom will gradually disappear within 2-3 days. This depression may cause various uncomfortable feelings from childbirth, excitement and fear about pregnancy and delivery, fatigue from childbirth, or worries about child care. Some may also worry about their appearance. Therefore, mothers should prepare themselves to cope with these conditions to easily control or resolve them.
Husbands should also help by trying to understand their wife’s emotions and physical health and provide special care, as well as help share the burden of child care, which will help alleviate the problem.
