Abdominal pain in children


  Abdominal pain is a symptom found in all ages and genders. It seems likely to happen in young children who cannot say a word. If a pain can give a great anxiety to their parents.  Then the abdominal pain may be classified as acute and chronic. Which there are many factors that can stimulate the pain such as, age and associated symptoms. However, it based on the age of the children according to the following information.

  • Infant

 

  • Young child.

 

  • Older child. 

 

Associated symptoms 

  •   Vomiting and fever including diarrhea.

 Causes of acute pain

  • Gastrointestinal infection; According to infection, it causes acute pain, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. mostly found in a newborn baby.

 

  •  Intussusception; children will not have a fever, but still have acute abdominal pain, vomiting, blood in stool. Including crying,  usually be found in small children.

 

  • Intestinal inflammation and food poisoning, which cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, often found in small children as well.

 

  • Appendicitis with fever acute abdominal pain. Especially on the lower part of the right side can be very painful. Accordingly, this is found in the group of older children.

 

  •  Blood vessels in the intestines, called “Henoch” has some rashes on including severe abdominal pain as the feeling of intestinal crushing. 

Causes of Chronic Pain

   This group the pain usually occurs about 7 up to 14 days, the pain can return and disappears at any time.  Which parents also need to see if they have these following symptoms. 

  • The child will have stomach pain, xiphoid pain, and having less food.

  • The child may have gastritis or gastric ulcer.

  • The child may have a yellow-fever disease also biliary obstruction and infection.

  • Hepatitis virus

  • Chronic constipation which the pain is usually not severe includes does not show up.

How parents can observe their children

    • When children have abdominal pain, parents may notice from symptoms, such as vomiting, fever, and diarrhea.
  • What kind of the pain are they suffering such as, severe pain, irregular pain, how long the pain does happen and what food they have before the pain start. 
  • Abdominal pain from accidents, such as concussion.

Detection 

 Firstly, a doctor needs to ask for a history of physical examination and may need to provide some  of special inspections. For example, laboratory examination, radiology, abdominal x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, CT scan examination. Or in some cases, may need to receive gastrointestinal endoscopy. Which examined by a specialized pediatrician. Accordingly, special medical tools required only for children. 

 In conclusion, if your child has severe abdominal pain, especially when it is associated with fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and blood in the stool. Do not overlook at the same urgently take your child to see a doctor as soon as possible.
