Symptoms of blood oozing from the skin, nose, and eyes are considered a very rare and unusual disease. This disease is medically known as Hematidrosis, or in Thai called “sweating blood disease”. According to medical reports, this disease is mostly found in adolescents aged between 12-14 years.
However, this disease can be found in both young children and the elderly, occurring more frequently in females than males.
Causes of Sweating Blood Disease
The symptoms of sweating blood disease are not related to physical abnormalities but arise from psychological conditions that cause the disease. It usually occurs after the patient experiences a traumatic psychological event causing severe stress, anxiety, fear, or shock. When the body is in such a state, it affects the function of the capillaries surrounding the sweat glands, causing abnormalities that lead to the leakage of red blood cells into the sweat glands. This causes the normally clear fluid we call sweat to mix with red blood cells, turning it red and being expelled as a symptom of the disease.
Symptoms of Sweating Blood Disease
Patients will have blood oozing from the skin without any wounds, resembling sweat. It can occur all over the body, including the nose and eyes. The symptoms are painless and do not have any other complications.
Treatment of Sweating Blood Disease
Since the cause of the disease is psychological, medical treatment recommends using prescribed medication along with psychological therapy from psychiatrists or psychotherapists to help the body relax from stress or anxiety. There is no definitive cure for this disease because if the psychological stress persists, the symptoms may recur.
If you experience any of the above symptoms, it is recommended to see a doctor promptly for a thorough physical examination to confirm that there are no physical abnormalities. The symptoms are caused by psychological conditions and will receive appropriate treatment.
