17.5% of the Thai population have chronic kidney disease, and there are more than 20,000 cases requiring renal replacement therapy. Hemodialysis using a dialysis machine is a popular method because it effectively removes waste, minerals, and excess water sufficiently and with quality. Each session takes about 4 hours and is usually done 2-3 times per week
How many types of hemodialysis machines are there?
There are 2 types of hemodialysis for chronic kidney failure patients: conventional hemodialysis (conventional hemodialysis) and high-efficiency hemodialysis (Hemodiafiltration, HDF)
- Conventional hemodialysis (conventional hemodialysis)
is a standard method used for both acute and chronic kidney failure patients. It relies on the principle of diffusion to exchange waste between the blood and dialysis fluid, effectively removing small molecular waste, excess water, and some medications. - High-efficiency hemodialysis (Hemodiafiltration, HDF)
uses both diffusion and convection principles, requiring replacement of highly purified fluid during dialysis. This method requires an excellent water production system capable of producing highly pure dialysis fluid (sterile dialysis fluid).
Advantages of high-efficiency hemodialysis (Hemodiafiltration, HDF)
The advantage of this method is that it can remove medium and large molecular waste more effectively than standard dialysis, such as Beta 2 microglobulin, indoxy sulfate and others. It provides stable blood pressure and heart function, reduces the need for erythropoiesis-stimulating agents, and decreases malnutrition caused by waste accumulation, thereby significantly improving patients’ quality of life.
Dialysis Center at Phyathai Hospital 2
At Phyathai Hospital 2, the dialysis center is located on the 14th floor of Building A. Both standard and high-efficiency dialysis are provided by medical personnel specialized in kidney diseases. There is also a multidisciplinary team ready to provide comprehensive care. Nurses and nurse assistants attentively care for patients like family members. The center is equipped with modern medical devices and has been certified by the Kidney Association of Thailand, HA, and JCI.
We are ready to care for all kidney patients, open daily from Monday to Saturday, 06:00-20:00, and Sunday, 06:00-16:00. You can contact us directly at Tel. 02-617-2444 ext. 1676, 1683-4
