Coronary Angiogram : CAG
Package detail
Coronary Angiogram (Coronary Angiography)
A Detailed Examination of the Heart’s Blood Vessels
A Coronary Angiogram, also known as Coronary Angiography, is a specialized diagnostic procedure used to examine the coronary arteries—the blood vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. The procedure uses X-ray imaging and a contrast dye to identify narrowing or blockages in the coronary arteries. It is an important diagnostic tool for evaluating coronary artery disease (CAD) and helping cardiologists determine the most appropriate treatment.
Why Is a Coronary Angiogram Performed?
Your cardiologist may recommend coronary angiography when there is a concern about reduced blood flow to the heart or coronary artery disease.
It may be used to:
- Investigate chest pain or suspected angina
- Evaluate abnormal results from cardiac tests
- Identify coronary artery narrowing or blockages
- Assess the severity and location of coronary artery disease
- Evaluate patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome
- Help determine whether angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery may be appropriate
- Assess coronary arteries before certain heart procedures or surgery
Symptoms That May Require Further Heart Evaluation
Coronary artery disease can cause symptoms such as:
- Chest pain, pressure, or tightness
- Shortness of breath
- Unusual fatigue
- Pain or discomfort spreading to the arm, shoulder, neck, jaw, or back
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Reduced exercise tolerance
If you experience sudden or severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, or other symptoms suggestive of a heart attack, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
