Sharing the experience of doing ICSI at Phyathai 3 Hospital, successful from the first time

Khun Ladayu, a 32-year-old mother, and her 33-year-old husband, after getting married, planned to build a complete family by having children as a bond of love. They tried naturally but were unsuccessful, so they decided to see a doctor to treat infertility.

Deciding to rely on doctors to treat infertility

“After getting married and trying to have a child for about 4 years without success, both of us wanted a child, and both families wanted to hold a grandchild. So, we decided to rely on medical methods, hoping the doctors could help treat and guide us to have a child.”

Consulting a doctor for infertility treatment: Should we do ICSI right away?

“Before coming to see the doctor at the Infertility Treatment Center, Hospital 3, we had consulted a doctor at a private hospital because someone recommended ICSI (ICSI is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, an in vitro fertilization method where the best single sperm is injected into the egg to initiate fertilization). When we arrived there, they recommended doing IUI first (IUI – Intra Uterine Insemination, which is directly injecting sperm into the uterus). We decided to follow the doctor’s advice. The first time was unsuccessful, the second time also failed, so on the third time, we decided to do ICSI. However, the result was still unsuccessful. We felt sad, discouraged, and tired, so we decided to take a break.”

But eventually, we had the opportunity to use the services at the Infertility Treatment Center, Hospital 3

Successful ICSI at Phyathai 3 Hospital on the first try

“It was a coincidence and I felt lucky to meet P’Nee (P.W. Wannee Ratchamueangfang, a specialist nurse in the infertility department) and Dr. Kulthida Thapsamutchai. Today, we have the chance to be new parents. At that time, we came to Phyathai 3 Hospital because my fiancé’s father had surgery for kidney stones, and we found out that this hospital has an Infertility Treatment Center. So, we decided to inquire at the center. We met P’Nee first, who greeted us and asked what we wanted to consult about, then introduced us to Dr. Kulthida.”

At first, we hadn’t decided to proceed because we were just disappointed and wanted to gather information. P’Nee gave me her personal Line ID and said if I had any problems or questions, I could contact her. After going back, I researched and read reviews about ICSI here, then messaged P’Nee for consultation many times. She answered all my questions quickly, which impressed me, and I decided to try ICSI again with Dr. Kulthida. The doctor was very kind, patient, and provided complete information. Whatever I was worried or concerned about, the doctor had answers, which made me feel confident and trust her.”

Undergoing the ICSI process with updates at every step

“Once we decided to proceed, we started the process: physical examination, egg stimulation, egg retrieval, sperm collection, embryo creation, and embryo transfer. Throughout the treatment, the center provided advice and excellent care, especially P’Nee. There was a time after embryo transfer when medication was inserted through the vagina, and bleeding occurred. I was very scared and called P’Nee, even sending her photos (laughs). She advised me to stay calm and not to be afraid, saying it was normal. That made me feel relieved, not stressed, and not worried alone. I was very impressed.

Another good moment was when we were about to receive the embryos. The center allowed us to talk directly with the lab team, who gave us a contact Line to update us continuously on the progress, how many embryos we had, and their gender. We knew every step. They told us everything, which gave us hope and more confidence that it would succeed.”

Ready to be new parents after a long wait

“Now everything has succeeded, and I feel very happy because we have waited a long time. This one is a girl. At first, we wanted twins and planned to transfer two embryos, but maybe due to my health, the doctor recommended transferring one at a time. If it failed, meaning all failed, we would try again. We trusted the doctor. Now, we have one frozen embryo left, a boy.”

Advice for those trying to have children

“For those who want to have children or want to get pregnant quickly but face infertility problems, I encourage you to open your heart and consult a doctor for guidance. If you don’t know where to go or are interested in doing ICSI but don’t know where to do it,

The Infertility Treatment Center at Hospital 3 is a good option. Personally, I have recommended it to many people because they saw me get pregnant and knew how much I wanted a child. Whenever someone asks me, I answer everything. Some have followed and succeeded as well. Another thing is to encourage you because I know it’s tiring. We must take good care of ourselves, not work too hard, eat well, and rest to increase the chances of success. Now that it has succeeded, I must thank the medical team and all the nurses who took good care of me.”
