SmartSight (ReLEx) Ai technology to correct myopia and astigmatism

SmartSight is the most advanced treatment for refractive errors currently available, using a laser to reshape the corneal curvature by separating the corneal layer into a lenticule within the corneal tissue and then removing the excess corneal tissue through a small incision of 2-5 mm. It has been developed from the traditional ReLEx surgery with an AI system that controls and calculates the shape of the lenticule and iris recognition technology to track eye movement and rotation before and during surgery. This results in highly accurate treatment, effectively correcting vision problems, especially astigmatism.

Technology Used in SmartSight Treatment

SCHWIND ATOS Femtosecond Laser by SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions GmbH from Germany

Features of SmartSight

  • Can correct myopia from [-0.50D to -12.00D]
  • Can correct astigmatism from [-6.00D to +6.00D]
  • Can correct refractive errors including myopia with astigmatism from [-0.50D to – 14.00D]
  • Highly accurate in treating refractive errors with iris recognition system to track eye movement and rotation before and during surgery
  • Reduces postoperative complications and increases patient comfort during surgery
  • Improves quality of vision after surgery and allows faster visual recovery

Steps of SmartSight Treatment

  • Iris recognition system tracks eye movement and rotation to determine the patient’s eye position
  • Use SCHWIND ATOS Femtosecond Laser to separate the corneal layer into a lenticule to reshape the cornea according to the desired prescription without damaging the outermost corneal surface
  • Create a small incision of 2-5 mm with SCHWIND ATOS Femtosecond Laser
  • Remove the lenticule through the small incision

Advantages of SmartSight Treatment

  • The corneal curvature after treatment closely resembles the natural shape as there is no corneal flap creation
  • Highly accurate in correcting refractive errors
  • Lower risk of side effects (such as dry eyes, glare in the dark, reduced clarity in low light) compared to other laser treatments because there is no corneal flap
  • Can correct refractive errors including myopia with astigmatism up to 14.00 Diopters
  • Short recovery time with quick return to normal vision
  • No pain during surgery
  • Laser is used in all steps of the surgery, making it a blade-free procedure
  • Small incision surgery without creating a corneal flap

Suitable For

  • 18 years old and above with stable vision for at least 1 year
  • No corneal diseases such as keratoconus, severe dry eye, or other eye diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts
  • No systemic diseases affecting wound healing such as SLE, Sjogren’s syndrome, psoriasis, other autoimmune diseases, or poorly controlled diabetes
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Not currently using psychiatric medications

Preparation

Avoid wearing contact lenses before the eye examination according to the type of contact lenses and the specified number of days. Glasses can be used instead during this period.

  • Soft lenses: stop wearing at least 3 days before the eye examination
  • Hard lenses or semi-hard lenses: stop wearing at least 14 days before the eye examination
  • Stop oral acne medications in the Isotretinoin group such as Roaccutane, Acnotin, Isotret at least 1 full month before the eye examination and surgery, as these medications cause dryness of the conjunctiva and corneal surface
  • If taking any other medications for chronic conditions, please inform the ophthalmologist on the examination day, such as diabetes medications, blood pressure medications, cholesterol medications, thyroid medications, and all types of sleeping pills. Patients can continue taking their medications as usual without stopping before or on the day of the examination

Treatment Limitations

SmartSight cannot currently treat congenital hyperopia or age-related hyperopia.
