Premature ejaculation, or colloquially known as “the sparrow can’t drink water in time” or “the ship sinks at the bay,” is a common problem found in men of all ages. Because it indicates sexual performance, many men feel worried and hesitate to consult a doctor. This condition is more common in men with little sexual experience than those with more experience and can be treated with the following methods.

How premature is premature ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation refers to the inability to control ejaculation long enough for the partner to reach orgasm. Naturally, during sexual intercourse, men can reach orgasm in about 2-3 minutes, which is faster than women who usually need about 15 minutes. Premature ejaculation has three types: ejaculating before penetration, just as penetration is about to happen, and after penetration.

How does premature ejaculation affect men and women?

  • From the man’s perspective, those with premature ejaculation feel anxious about the relationship and sometimes even avoid sexual intercourse.
  • From the woman’s perspective, there is almost no satisfaction in sex, and they worry about the relationship. Many women feel frustrated due to premature ejaculation, feeling that the man is selfish because only he reaches orgasm.

Premature ejaculation can be treated with these methods

  • Masters and Johnson method involves learning to control the orgasm sensation by practicing control. Initially, it may start with masturbation, and when nearing orgasm, stop (do not ejaculate). Once the sensation subsides, start again. Repeat this 3-4 times each session, getting as close to orgasm as possible and enduring it. This helps learn where the orgasm point is, enabling better control and delayed ejaculation. This method is formally called the Start – Stop technique.
  • Squeeze technique can be used alongside the first method to make ejaculation control easier. In this method, when masturbating and nearing orgasm, use the thumb and index finger to squeeze near the frenulum (the underside of the glans) or at the base of the penis for about 3-4 seconds until the sensation decreases.
  • Frequent exercise of the muscles used to contract the anus by practicing anal contractions, known as Kegel exercises. Using condoms that are relatively thick or contain anesthetic can reduce sexual sensation and delay ejaculation. The woman-on-top position helps the man relax and control better. When nearing orgasm, inform the partner.
