Dementia in children

Brain degeneration can occur at any age. Brain cells can be created and destroyed simultaneously. In childhood, the creation of brain cells occurs extensively, and as one enters adulthood, the creation of brain cells decreases.

Causes of Brain Degeneration in Children

  • Genetics There are abnormal genes. Children with these abnormal genes may start showing symptoms at birth or within 23 months after birth. Some cases may occur between 45 years. When children have these abnormal genes, it causes the accumulation of various toxins in the brain. These toxins can lead to brain cell death.
  • Inflammation or Infection For example, measles infection in early childhood. The measles virus hides in the body and causes brain inflammation, which can lead to brain degeneration.
  • Unknown Causes It may be due to cellular mechanisms themselves, such as the cells experiencing stress to the point that they cannot survive and die.

Symptoms of Brain Degeneration in Children

  • If a child was previously able to do something but then can no longer do it, this is called developmental regression.
  • There are certain abnormal habits or behaviors that differ from before, which may need to be monitored as they could be symptoms of neurological degeneration diseases.
  • Symptoms become clearly apparent, such as previously being able to move arms and legs well but now experiencing tremors or memory problems. These symptoms are points of suspicion that the child may have brain degeneration.
