Ovarian tumor is a common condition that can be found in women of all ages. It can be divided into 3 types:

  • Functional ovarian cyst
  • Benign ovarian tumor
  • Malignant ovarian tumor

Common symptoms include

  • Feeling a lump by yourself in the lower abdomen
  • Sometimes experiencing pain in the lower abdomen
  • Some may feel that their abdomen is enlarged
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Frequent urination, which is a symptom of the mass pressing on the bladder
  • Constipation or difficulty passing stool, which is a symptom of the mass pressing on the large intestine
  • Some patients may have symptoms from complications of the ovarian mass, importantly acute lower abdominal pain from ovarian torsion (Twisted ovarian tumor), which may be accompanied by fever

Treatment

When experiencing severe abdominal pain or suspecting the disease, you should see a doctor immediately. The doctor will usually diagnose by ultrasound, CT scan, or endoscopy. A biopsy may be required to clearly distinguish the cause before treatment or surgery. For example, if the mass is ovarian cancer, the ovary and fallopian tube will be surgically removed along with chemotherapy.

The advantage of laparoscopic examination is that it allows direct visualization of the external appearance and size of the mass and can also be used for treatment through laparoscopic surgery. Currently, gynecological surgery has advanced in many aspects, providing the greatest benefit in improving treatment efficiency. The incisions are small, patients experience less pain compared to open surgery, and recovery is faster because less tissue is damaged. The small surgical wounds result in less scarring and reduce the risk of infection, allowing the body to recover quickly.
