PMS Can Treat Pain, Fatigue and Numbness.

Pain, aches and numbness, although are harmless, can create a lot of disturbance and impacts on daily living. These symptoms can prevent you from happily engaging in many activities. However, many who experience these aches and pains will be able to smile now because a medical technology has been developed as another treatment option that relies on electromagnetic waves. Known as PMS, in addition to relieving pain, aches and numbness, it gives good hope to people who have plans for undergoing surgery.

PMS: An Effective Neurological Treatment Device

Peripheral magnetic stimulation (PMS) is a device used to stimulate the peripheral nervous system by using electromagnetic waves. The device operates according to the principle that, when there are signs of pain, whether in the muscles, tendons or nerves, the device will transmit electromagnetic waves to stimulate the nerves to send signals to the brain to trigger the brain to transmit signals to the affected area in order to suppress pain symptoms. This device is usable in the following patients:

  • Patients with chronic and acute pain symptoms such as people with Office Syndrome, in whom the device will be able to reduce nerve-related pain, along with patients experiencing numbness potentially caused by diabetes, and drugs can cause various symptoms similar to numbness or burning or shooting pain in the peripheral nerves. The device can effectively reduce these symptoms.
  • Patients suffering from spinal disc herniation, spondylosis and vertebral compression fracture that causes nerve compression to produce shooting pains in the legs. Meanwhile, for bones at the base of the neck with shooting pain in the arms, PMS can help effectively reduce neuropathic pain.
  • In patients with paresis or paralysis, the device can reduce muscle tension and strengthen muscles in those with muscle weakness.

An Option for Reducing Pain Before and After Surgery

In some cases where the patient has spinal disc herniation and requires surgery, the doctor will ask the patient to decide for surgery personally. If the patient is not ready to undergo surgery, the patient will be recommended physical therapy as an option, and a PMS device can be used to help reduce pain along with other physical therapy techniques such as mobilization and use of a traction device in order to improve treatment effective in the patient and reduce risk for surgery. However, this depends on the severity and pathology of the disease as well. In addition, after the patient has already undergone surgery, the PMS device will be able to play a major role in reducing pain and numbness from surgery.

How long does it take to be effective?

  • In patients with neck, shoulder and back pain caused by a disease, pain symptoms will visibly improve after 1-2 uses.
  • In surgery patients, normally, it has to be performed consecutively for 3-5 times per week to produce improvements within about 2 weeks.
  • For muscle, tendon and nerve problems along with paresis, paralysis, muscle weakness and tension, it takes about 3-5 times per week to be able to restore muscles to promote good movements in the first stages.
  • If the chronic symptoms of locked shoulders are not very severe and the arms can be lived, 1-2 PMS sessions along with physical therapy techniques such as mobilization can be used to stretch muscles.

Precautions for PMS

PMS treatment has some limitations for some patients, for example, cancer patients undergoing treatment and patients with a heart catheter or pacemaker or defibrillator, since it can cause abnormalities or impact the effectiveness of the defibrillator. In addition, the treatment should be avoided in areas with stents or metal in the body, and it is necessary to remove metal jewelry from the body along with various electronic communications devices and to place them away from the patient by at least 2 meters in order to prevent damage.
