Cervical Cancer

  • Cervical cancer is the most common cancer found in Thai women and causes the death of up to 7 Thai women per day.
  • It is not a hereditary disease but is mainly caused by HPV virus infection through all forms of sexual intercourse. Condoms cannot provide 100% protection against this virus.
  • HPV is a highly contagious virus. Statistics show that 8 out of 10 women have a chance of being infected with this virus at some point in their lives.
  • Women who have sexual intercourse at a young age are at higher risk of HPV infection. The age group 18-28 years is when this virus infection is most commonly found.
  • This virus infection may occur without symptoms. By the time it is detected, it is often in an advanced stage, causing about half of the patients to die.
