Self-care Techniques to Prevent "Acid Reflux"

Acid Reflux is considered a chronic disease that affects many patients. Although it may not be severe… the chronic condition impacts the quality of life of patients. If you don’t want to suffer from this disease, here is what you need to know!

Behaviors to Reduce the Risk of Acid Reflux

  • Know how to control your weight. Avoid being overweight because people with excess weight have increased pressure in the abdominal cavity.
  • Take care of yourself and avoid stress, as it causes the stomach to secrete more acid.
  • Do not eat within 3 hours before bedtime. Otherwise, undigested food when lying down can cause stomach acid to flow back up.
  • Stimulating beverages such as tea and coffee can cause acid reflux. Therefore, people who stay up late regularly are more likely to have this disease than those who go to bed early.
  • Avoid hard-to-digest foods because when digestion takes a long time, the stomach works abnormally hard, causing acid reflux.
  • Do not let yourself become constipated, as it causes excessive gas in the stomach. Excess gas increases abdominal pressure and pushes acid back up.

This disease mainly results from eating behaviors. Therefore, you should eat meals on time, in appropriate amounts, and avoid foods that stimulate increased stomach acid. Also, pay attention to proper bowel habits, allocate adequate rest time, and avoid staying up too late because staying up late changes your normal lifestyle and may cause stress unknowingly due to insufficient rest.
