Restore your happiness to smile again with dental implants

“Tooth Loss” whether caused by tooth decay leading to extraction, broken or chipped teeth from accidents, or natural wear and tear with age, will affect chewing. Especially in the case of molars, it can easily lead to nutritional problems due to insufficiently thorough chewing. If it is a front tooth, it will affect biting and also cause many people to lose confidence in speaking, smiling, and socializing.

If we do not solve the problem by replacing the lost tooth, the adjacent teeth will eventually tilt or shift into the empty space, increasing the problem. Getting a “dental implant” is therefore an option that not only replaces the lost tooth but also restores our normal quality of life.

What is a “Dental Implant”?

Dental implant surgery involves embedding a dental implant fixture into the jawbone at the site where the tooth root is lost. Then, a prosthetic tooth or crown is attached to the implant to replace the missing tooth. The materials used for the implant and prosthetic tooth are made from “titanium”, a strong metal that can withstand chewing forces and is well accepted by the body without causing allergic reactions or rejection. It reduces inflammation of the oral tissues, allowing bone cells to quickly integrate with the implant, creating a strong bond. This helps restore chewing function to normal. With the precision of the tooth shaping process, dental implants also help patients regain confidence in their daily activities.

Oral Health Assessment Before Dental Implant Surgery

Before placing a dental implant, the dentist will first assess the patient’s oral condition to determine if they are suitable for the implant or ready for the procedure. If there are dental health issues that could interfere with implant placement, these must be treated first. In some cases, after a CT scan, it may be found that the supporting bone is insufficient due to infection causing marginal bone loss or other reasons, requiring bone grafting and sinus lift. These procedures must be performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgery specialist, which makes the implant placement more complex. If no problems are found on the X-ray, the dentist will evaluate the appropriate type, length, and size of the implant needed, then schedule the patient for implant surgery.

Patient Preparation for Smooth Treatment

Patient preparation before surgery helps ensure successful, safe treatment and reduces patient anxiety. Arriving 15-30 minutes early to prepare is recommended. Patients with drug allergies or chronic diseases who are on continuous medication should continue taking their medications as usual, except for certain drugs that must be stopped before surgery. Patients should not stop any medication on their own and must consult the dentist before the appointment.

Implant Placement First, Then New Crown Placement

After implant placement, it takes about 3-4 months for the implant to integrate with the bone. Then, an impression is taken on the implant to create a crown, which takes about 1-2 weeks. This stage requires precision to ensure the prosthetic tooth matches the natural teeth in shape and color. Once this step is completed, the dentist will schedule the patient to place the crown on the implant. The entire process usually takes no more than 4 and a half months, restoring the patient’s normal quality of life.

Multiple Implants Can Be Done at the Same Time

Dental implants differ from dental bridges, which also replace missing teeth in specific locations but rely on adjacent natural teeth for support. Bridges require strong neighboring teeth on both sides of the gap. In contrast, implants are anchored directly to the bone, allowing multiple implants to be placed simultaneously with high strength and durability.
