Instructions for Preparation Before MRI Examination and Conduct During the Examination
- For cooperative patients, there is no need to fast or avoid drinking before the examination.
- For uncooperative patients who require sedatives or anesthesia, fasting from food and drink for at least 4-6 hours before the examination is required.
- For abdominal organ examinations or biliary system examinations (MRCP), fasting from food and drink for at least 4-6 hours before the examination is required.
- Avoid using certain makeup products before the examination, such as mascara and eyeshadow, as they may contain metal components that can appear as foreign objects in the images.
- During the examination, patients must not move or shift the area being scanned to ensure clear images.
- There will be intermittent loud noises from the machine during the scan; earplugs will be provided to reduce the noise.
- The duration of the examination depends on the organ being scanned, averaging about 30-40 minutes.
Patients Prohibited from Undergoing MRI
- Patients with a cardiac pacemaker.
- Patients with metal inside their body near vital organs.
- Patients who have undergone surgery with metallic clips implanted.
- Patients who have undergone surgery with metal implants (in certain locations).
- Patients who have undergone organ replacement surgery, such as cochlear implants.
Items Prohibited in the MRI Room
- All metal objects, such as scissors, clips, hairpins, etc.
- Credit cards and ATM cards.
- Electronic devices.
- Watches and jewelry.
