Heart diseases are considered asymptomatic as they usually do not show noticeable symptoms. Sometimes it is too late to treat as no obvious signs and symptoms that indicate the severity of disease shown.

How to take early precaution?

Although the symptoms of heart diseases are usually unnoticeable, these are some signs used to indicate heart diseases:

    • Exhaustion, palpitation and dyspnea
    • Exhaustion during exercise
    • Chest pain or discomfort
    • Sudden loss of conscious or syncope

Even a slightly abnormal sign and symptom cannot be neglected. If you have these signs and symptoms, you should see the doctor for further evaluation. The earlier you discover the diseases, the sooner you will receive the proper treatment, resulting in higher chances of survival. Therefore, you should always monitor yourself and your family. If you or your family present signs and symptoms indicating the diseases, you should consult with a cardiologist for further medical evaluation.

Heart Checkup…. A perfect solution to avoid losses.

Medical checkup can help identify health conditions in their early stage, resulting in proper treatment and most effective outcome. Heart checkup can also reveal the risk of having heart diseases. The sooner we know about the risk we are at, the less chance of heart disease occurrence in the future.

Generally, we should undergo the heart checkup at least once yearly, along with the annual health checkup. It helps us predict the risk of heart diseases. For example, if the blood work reveals that we have diabetes or hyperlipidemia (excessive blood fats), It is possible that we also have coronary artery stenosis. A chest X-ray can reveal Cardiomegaly (Heart enlargement) that is usually caused by coronary artery stenosis or abnormal heart valve.

High-risk people, for example, those whom heart diseases run in their family trees, those with underlying diseases such as diabetes or hypertension, should frequently undergo heart checkups which can be done in several ways as follows:

    • EKG is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heartbeat.
    • Exercise Stress Test by running on a treadmill or pedalling an exercise cycle may reveal changes on the ECG to suggest coronary artery disease.
    • Echocardiography is a test that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to make pictures of your heart.
    • Ankle Brachial Pressure Index, ABI test is a quick, noninvasive way to check for peripheral artery disease.
