When you find out you are pregnant, the following changes occur in the mother’s body: you will start to feel soreness, tenderness, and tightness in the breasts because they are beginning to enlarge, which can increase in size by 3-5 inches. During 10-12 weeks of pregnancy, the breasts will grow and gain weight, so expectant mothers need to change to a new bra that fits their body shape.
If the breasts are not supported and held by a good bra, the various tissue structures will be pulled down by the increasing weight of the breasts due to gravity, causing the breasts to lose shape or sag and they may not be able to return to their original condition.
A good bra must support the growing and heavier breasts well. The bra structure should be basket-shaped to distribute the weight evenly across the breasts and should have wider shoulder straps than usual to distribute the weight well on the mother’s shoulder skin. Additionally, the bra should have a back hook with multiple adjustable levels to fit appropriately as the breasts continue to grow, reaching their largest size towards the end of pregnancy. If buying a bra during this period, it is recommended to choose one with a front opening to facilitate breastfeeding after delivery.
Mothers with relatively large breasts should wear a bra every time they sleep. Mothers who have given birth should wear a bra with nursing pads, which helps prevent milk leakage during sleep and also helps protect against cracked nipples.
For choosing underwear, due to the growing size of the mother’s abdomen and the increasing weight of the baby in the womb, which pulls down due to gravity, the skin on the abdomen is stretched more. Therefore, specially designed underwear for mothers helps support the pregnancy and bear the weight of the womb, making the mother feel less burdened or less pain in the pubic bone area. It also helps reduce back pain.
