As a doctor treating infertile couples, I believe that every couple who is ready and planning to have children has some knowledge about preparing for parenthood, whether from articles, various media, or advice from relatives and close friends. However, I would like to summarize the preparation before pregnancy into three points as follows:

<li>Physical preparation</li>
<li>Mental preparation</li>
<li>Financial and social preparation</li>
</ol>
<h2>Physical Preparation 
</h2>
We all know what it takes to make the body strong. In my opinion as a doctor, physical preparation should consist of three important parts: diet, sleep, and exercise, with the following details:
<ul>
<li>Good nutrition means eating a balanced diet with all five food groups, but with different proportions.</li>
<li>Increase protein intake, whether from eggs, fish, various meats, and also plant-based proteins such as soybeans, almonds, black sesame, and pumpkin seeds.</li>
<li>Reduce carbohydrates because starch turns into sugar, and if not fully metabolized, it accumulates as fat. However, good carbohydrates that should be consumed include complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, quinoa, and whole grains.</li>
<li>Consume good fatty acids such as Omega-3 and 6, which are abundant in sea fish, fish oil, avocado, and grains.</li>
<li>Focus on antioxidants because as we age, the body deteriorates, including the ovaries in women. Nowadays, anti-aging science helps slow down this deterioration, including antioxidant foods and vitamins. Therefore, I recommend those preparing for pregnancy to consume the following:

<li>Folic Acid</li>
<li>Multivitamins</li>
<li>Co-Q10</li>
<li>Fish oil</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
Additionally, harmful substances such as cigarettes and alcohol should be avoided.
<ul>
<li>Good sleep: We should have adequate rest. My little tip is to sleep at least 6-8 hours per day, and the best time to sleep is from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM because this is when the growth hormone is secreted the most. This growth hormone helps our body grow when we are children, and as we age, it shifts its role to repair worn-out body parts from daily use, slowing down aging. This also benefits the ovaries in women and sperm in men.</li>
<li>Good exercise: We should not exercise too intensely because excessive exercise may affect sex hormones. Therefore, exercise 4-5 times a week, and each session should not exceed 1 hour. Men should avoid cycling as it may affect sperm health.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Mental Preparation 
</h2>
As we know, stress affects pregnancy because it can cause hormonal imbalances, leading to delayed ovulation, irregular menstruation, and difficulty determining ovulation days. Therefore, it is important to keep the mind calm, let go of what should be let go, and prepare mentally for having children. However, pregnancy is just the beginning. I always tell my patients with infertility issues that “During pregnancy, childbirth, and raising children to become good adults, there will still be many obstacles. We need a lot of physical and mental strength.” From my own experience, my daughter is now 9 years old, and my wife and I raise her ourselves. It’s really fun because each stage of her growth brings different challenges. But the most important thing is the support from our life partner, family, and friends. I wish everyone strength and encouragement.
<h2>Financial and Social Preparation 
</h2>
Currently, with the pandemic situation and the economy not doing very well, having a child involves increased expenses. You may have to pay from the very beginning if you have infertility issues. However, I believe that if you want to have children, it means you are reasonably prepared. Living sufficiently should not be a problem. Additionally, you may need to prepare helpers to take care of the child. Our parents and siblings are the best helpers as they are always willing to assist us.

Another very important matter is that before creating a lovely little child, both partners should have their health checked to see if there are any diseases or conditions that could be passed on to the child. Always get a pre-pregnancy health check to detect any abnormalities that could be inherited by the baby.
Finally, I would like to encourage all couples planning to have children to succeed quickly.
