Office Syndrome: A common ailment among office workers

“Office Syndrome” has become a popular disease among workers nowadays due to working long hours sitting in front of a computer. Some may sit for up to 10 hours a day, causing the body to move less than it should. Incorrect postures unknowingly make many people develop this condition unexpectedly. Let’s check if your posture is at risk of causing office syndrome.

Sitting with arms crossed or hugging yourself

This posture causes the upper back, shoulder blades, and shoulders to stretch out. The upper back becomes hunched and bent forward, causing the neck to protrude forward, which affects the nerves that supply the arms. If this becomes a habit, it may cause weakness in the hands and numbness.

Sitting on the chair without fully sitting back

Or sitting without your back touching the backrest will make the back muscles work harder because the base supporting your body weight is unbalanced.

Sitting with a slouched, hunched back

If you sit like this in front of the computer for hours without realizing it, your muscles will tense up and stay contracted, causing a buildup of lactic acid. This reduces muscle flexibility and strength, leading to fatigue and back pain. If left untreated, it may cause problems with the cervical spine and spinal deformities.

Sitting cross-legged

This is a common posture for almost every office lady, but sitting like this puts pressure on one leg. If you sit like this for a long time, it may cause spinal curvature.

Besides avoiding the postures mentioned above, don’t forget that you should not sit in a chair for long periods. You should get up and stretch every 1-2 hours. Most importantly, don’t forget to allocate time for exercise for 15 – 30 minutes a day for a healthy body.
