Sports-related accidents

Exercise can occur at any time with all types of sports, but sports that are prone to injuries, such as contact sports that cause many injuries, like football and basketball, etc. Even non-contact sports can cause injuries, such as speed-based sports like cycling, sports involving height like gymnastics, or sports requiring weightlifting, etc.

 

 

Athletes will visit doctors with various types of injuries, categorized as follows:

  • Injuries to the skin and subcutaneous fat layer, such as abrasions and bruises
  • Injuries to muscles and muscle tendons, such as cramps, muscle tears, torn knee ligaments caused by sudden twisting of the knee when bearing weight or from accidents. Symptoms include immediate internal knee pain and sometimes a tearing sound. Some cases present with knee instability.
  • Injuries to joints and ligament attachments, such as ankle sprains, which are injuries to the ligaments around the ankle. These are common in athletes during sports and daily activities. Common symptoms include swelling and inability to bear weight on the injured side. Doctors can diagnose through physical examination and movement tests. Treatment focuses on reducing pain and swelling and preventing further ligament injury. Frequent ankle sprains can lead to joint looseness, and if it persists for many years, it can cause premature joint degeneration.
  • Bone fractures require urgent hospital transfer, especially if the bone is protruding through the skin. Keep the wound area clean and help stop the bleeding.

 

 

Accident prevention care that can be done includes self-care and maximizing protection by relying on skills, physical fitness, warming up, and ensuring protection for players, gameplay, and all surrounding equipment.
